The Regional Council for Hallingdal is a cooperative and interest organization for Hallingdal's six municipalities. It is composed of the mayors of Flå, Nesbyen, Gol, Hemsedal, Ål, and Hol.
The Regional Council works to develop the region with a particular focus on some prioritized areas. The council represents the region's interests to the county, state, and other bodies at the regional, county, and national levels.
The formal organization of inter-municipal cooperation began as early as 1952 with the establishment of the Cooperation Committee for Hallingdal, which consisted of the mayors of the six municipalities. From 1967-1984, Hallingdal also had a Regional Planning Council. Hallingdal was the first region in the country to receive its regional plan, which was adopted by the Ministry of the Environment in 1973.
The administration of the Regional Council for Hallingdal plays an important role in coordinating and promoting cooperation and regional development in Hallingdal. They work on various projects and initiatives that support sustainable growth and development in the region. This includes work on transportation, applying for state funds for infrastructure development such as fiber networks, and leading projects in business development, climate, circular economy, and living and staying. The administration contributes to realizing the region's goals and strategies.
