Hallingdal offers a wide range of educational opportunities that combine academic quality with the region’s unique nature and culture.

Campus Hallingdal, in collaboration with the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), offers higher education in Hallingdal. Students can choose between bachelor’s programs in tourism management and primary school teacher education, as well as one-year studies in digital media design, IT and information systems, and economics and administration with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. From autumn 2025, the offerings will expand with a new bachelor’s program in tourism. At Torpomoen in Ål, you can find flexible nursing programs and several continuing education courses.

The Geilo Education Center (USG) is a regional center offering flexible and decentralized educational opportunities. USG collaborates with Fagskolen i Viken to offer higher vocational education in hotel and restaurant management, as well as tourism and experience development. The studies are available both full-time and online, providing flexibility for students. USG and Fagskolen act as a bridge to education and career development in Hallingdal, offering courses and programs tailored to the needs of the local community. They work closely with local businesses, providing students with exciting part-time jobs and practical experience.

Additionally, Fagskolen Diakonova (formerly Folkeuniversitetet) offers vocational education programs that are practically oriented and tailored to the labor market’s needs in Hallingdal. For healthcare professionals, a new vocational education program in "Specialization in Medical Procedures and Observation Competence" is planned to start in 2025 and will also be available in the region.

Hallingdal Folk High School, located in Gol, offers a unique folk high school year focused on outdoor activities, creativity, and personal development. The school offers programs such as "Architecture and Nature," where students can explore architecture in harmony with nature. Its location provides easy access to activities like skiing, mountain hiking, and kite surfing, offering students a rich and varied experience.

Ål Folk High School and Course Center for the Deaf is an inclusive school that offers specially adapted teaching for the deaf and hard of hearing. The school has a varied program, including outdoor life, culture, and society, with a strong emphasis on sign language and visual communication. It also serves as a course center and meeting place for the deaf and hard of hearing from across the country.

And we must not forget Hallingdal Career Center! Are you considering pursuing education or looking for a job? Do you want to change your job situation? Are you unsure about your options? Hallingdal Career Center offers free guidance related to education and employment for everyone over 19 years old in the region. The center is a public service providing neutral and professional advice on future career choices.

High school

In addition to offering a wide range of study options for those over 19 years old, Hallingdal also provides diverse upper secondary education opportunities, including Norway’s Elite Sports High School (NTG) Geilo, Gol Upper Secondary School, and Ål Upper Secondary School.

NTG Geilo combines elite sports training with education and offers both academic and vocational programs in sales, service, and tourism, as well as health and youth development studies.

Gol Upper Secondary School offers both university-preparatory and vocational education programs, including general studies, sports, restaurant and food sciences, as well as media and communication.

Ål Upper Secondary School offers programs in construction and building technology, electrical engineering, health and youth development, natural resource use, ambulance services, and supplementary general studies.

For students who need a fresh start or a break from upper secondary education, alternative initiatives are available to support completion. One example is Ung Invest Hallingdal in Gol, which provides a safe learning environment where young people can develop self-confidence and social skills.

Additionally, Adult Education in Hallingdal (VOV Hallingdal) offers recognition of prior learning assessments and tailored learning programs for adults eligible for upper secondary education. These initiatives provide flexible learning opportunities, ensuring that everyone can achieve their educational and career goals!

Career and Education Fair Hallingdal

The Career and Education Fair in Hallingdal is a significant event held every other year at Storefjell Resort Hotel on Golsfjellet. The fair aims to provide students from secondary schools and high schools in the region with thorough guidance on available educational, vocational training, and career opportunities, both within and outside Hallingdal. At the same time, the organizers want to inform and raise awareness among students about the many choices they have regarding their interests and future plans.

The Career and Education Fair Hallingdal will be held next on January 6-7, 2027!
