The Hallingdal region, with its six municipalities; Flå, Nesbyen, Gol, Hemsedal, Ål and Hol, is located in the beautiful Norwegian mountain area midway between Oslo and Bergen. We are easily accessed by car, bus or train.

In Hallingdal, you can enjoy fresh air, lots of space, snowy winters and excellent biking and hiking in the summer. In the valley you’ll find several famous skiing destinations such as Geilo and Hemsedal.

However, there’s a lot more to Hallingdal than nature!

Although small, we have a first-rate and modern local hospital as well as great health care services. In addition we have a sustainability and innovation centre, a great support system for startups and a wide range of cultural activities. Throughout the year you can enjoy a wide range of festivals and cultural events.

In Hallingdal, all children under the age of 5 years are guaranteed a place in Kindergarden, which in Norway is more affordable than in the Netherlands. Also there are a wide range of jobs available within different sectors, such as: Health care, education and social services, construction, hospitality services, entrepreneurship and start-ups.

The six municipalities

The six Hallingdal municipalities consists of small and friendly communities ranging from 1000 to 5000 inhabitants. Throughout the whole region, we put a lot of effort in to making newcomers feel welcome. Read more about Hallingdal's six unique municipalities here.
